Wow! I really have to say I didn’t see this coming! I thought that Michael Vick’s prison term was justified, maybe even a little shorter than it should have been, but giving Plaxico Burress two years for possession of a firearm and shooting himself in the leg just seems absolutely ridiculous to me especially since it probably means the end of his professional football career in the NFL. You can place wagers on this if you enjoy sports betting at any sportsbook.
I am not saying that I don’t think Burress deserves to be punished, because I really think he does, but giving him two years and basically destroying everything he has worked for in his NFL career is beyond me. Burress may not be a Randy Moss or Terrell Owens in terms of hall of fame talent, but he is arguably one of the top five or ten wide receivers in the league with a promising future until now that is.
At 32 years of age, Burress will be 34 years old when he gets out of prison and in most circles that is basically the end of a wide receiver’s prime and career in most cases. Other wide receivers like Marvin Harrison who is 36 have managed to hang around the NFL and still be productive, but just recently Harrison was cut from the Indianapolis Colts and is still looking for a job.
Some team will almost certainly sign Burress when he gets out of prison, just like the Philadelphia Eagles did signing quarterback Michael Vick last week, but he will no longer be considered the cream of the crop at his position.
Burress’s prison sentence doesn’t really affect sports betting in the NFL like Vick coming to the Eagles does, due to the fact that he didn’t have a team after the New York Giants cut their ties with the troubled wide receiver. So online betting, bets on sports and sports betting forum chatter will not be effected, but Burress might have an impacted at the end of his two year prison term.
